For tonight's 15 lap main Ge nnai had settled himself with a w in in the qualifying h eat and regular heat and th en a second b ehind th e fast paced Roberts in th e semi. T h a t semi was th e faster with Pat McC aul winning the o the r and th ereby putting John on th e middle o f th e front row. Ridin g the Mt. View Aut o Stere o Bultaco off the lin e with an almos t unbelieveable st ar t , he be at both Roberts and McCaul into the fi rst co rn er and with ' n o crashes, the 15 . Iap per was all his. R oberts stayed in firm co n tro l o f second while slipping o ff the pace b y ab o u t o ne-fo urth of a sec o nd in th e total time . Rick Hocking held the third spot over Al Kenyon with Dave Lewis h olding o ff Steve Hernandez for fifth . In the troph y dash, it was Roberts once again with another astounding wh eel stand o ver the finish line. In the ten lap co nsolat io n , Gary Lozano survived th e bashing and crash ing with fellow J unior rider Steve Foster bringing up second. Gennai h ad opened up a sma ll lead ab o u t lap 12 with Roberts sizing up th e field as they began to pass through th e p ack . Coming o ut of the first co rner on the white flag lap, Roberts closed it up and a t the last t um, it was so close that ei the r Roberts tri ed to n ab the lea der, o r Genn ai got n ervou s and almos t d rop pe d th e bike. At any ra te , Gennai had to gra b a who le h andful of thro ttle and do so me fan cy s tepp ing t o maintain co ntrol. In the p rocess he s ta rted fo r the in field, but d id manage to ge t th ings un der con trol and take th e checke re d fir st .
