shot firs t. Gordy Oakes was ab le to

ta ke over second.
Gary Brown leap ed in to the lead in
th e Ex pert Main , wi th Dick Wash er and
Randy Skiver righ t behind. Skiver go t a
dri ve and d ove u nde r both Wash er an d
Brown to take over first, while Washer

Okay . everybody lift your front wheels.
Collie the n led only a few m o re lap s
before he suffered m ech ani cal p ro b lems
and had to come in to the pits. The lead
switched between many rid e rs with
Sp ring Valley's Pat G uthrie finally
ta k in g a siza b le lead . Bu t G u thrie go t
tan gled u p wi th anothe r rid er as Pat was
trying to pass h im in the first t um and
both cyclists went sprawling. Phil Collie,
Larry's yo u r:ger brother, Joh n Ap ple,
and S taflo rd Jed th e 10 0-lap per fro m
that point. Bo th Phi l Collie and Apple
had problems with th eir machines which
put them down in the standings.

so far ahead of th e re st of the field he
looked like he was ru nning alo ne as h e
took h is Triumph arou nd with the
engine purring lik e a b ig co nten te d lion .

T he Expert/Ju nior Trophy Dash saw
Rand y Skiver (Exp), wi th the fas tes t
time of th e evening o f 18 .8 3, 'Mike
El der (Ex p), Jim Einarrso n Uun ) and
Sam Martin U u n) running agai ns t each
other. I t was ki nd of wil d going in to th e
firs t tu m corner with no one k no wi ng
just who was goi ng to c om e ou t ahead .

bu t Einarsson did a no-no co mi ng off
the line and the ref black flagged hi m
off the trac k. Marti n though t the b lack

leaving th e Trop hy Dash to Elder and
S kiver. Elder had th e lead an d fought
off Skiver to take home the Trophy .
T he start of the J unio r Main saw
Martin take the lead wh ile Ei na rsso n
took second . I t took Einarsson fo ur lap s
to work h is Harley arou nd Martin ' s
Trium ph, but once he d id , there was no
stopping him. Einarsson jetted h is
Harley across the fin ish line in firs t as
Martin p laced se co nd. Mangano m ov ed
up to take over third with Siegel four th .
As the Novice Main got un derway,
everyone was sitting on the edge of their
seat, waiting to see if Brad Tibbetts was
going to make it four in a row. Mike
Sears zapped the m on the lin e an d came
out in th e lead wi th Don Pitts secon d
and Tib betts fou nd hi mself in fou rth.
Before the fou rth lap was o ver, T ibbetts
had take n over first. From there on it
was Tibbetts all the way as he stretc hed
ou t h is lead a nd we nt o n to ta ke fir st.
Pitts h eld onto second while Sea rs ca m e
in thi rd.
