Fetty crossed the finis h line of the Baja 500
here on a Honda XL-250 at 12:38 th is morning . Just 12 hours and 20 minutes earlier hi s
teammate, Bill Silverthorn, had started the
rac e from the same place. In that time, they
cro sse d app roxim ately 500 miles of the
roughes t Baja Ca li fornia terrain . And th e
pai r an d their Honda si n gle, spon sored by
Honda-l em on Grove of San Diego, beat all
other bikes doing it.
O ld timer s a t the start were amazed at
jus t how little the XL-250 had been raceprepared. And reports from the finish in dica te it " came in the same way it left." Hardly
a sc ra tch. Proof of just how rugged a n d
depend able this new 250 is. The winnin g
time is proof of just ho w powerful it is.
In trodu ced th is y ea r, th e new fourvalve four-s troke Xl -250 single has quickly
picked up the wi nning habit. Dave M ungena st rode on e to a go ld medal in last month 's
Berkshire Trials and a 250 class tr ials win in
Missouri. And Bob Hosford recently flew one
to an expert class motocross win at Ascot.
