The R ussia n was not popular with some of the 30,000 Czechs p ress ing against th e ropes and he got cat calls and wh istles wh ile J oel Was carried aro un d the tr ack on a wave of chee rs an d applause . Now Joel had to race hard for pe rhaps the first time this season . lie he ld the thro ttle wide open down the steep bu mpy h ills and he let the engi ne sing each time the wheels left the ground. With two laps to go J oel had cu t the margin down to 10 seconds and the cro wd w as going crazy. But the fantastic pace and stiff suspension overstressed the Suzu ki and on the last lap the frame snapped just below the steering head . The bike snaked and wobbled a round for most of a lap b ut j oel finally pushed th e last h u nd red yards to the finish line as Kring, Palm and Kibirine whistled past him. Joe l h ad a bad day but Kavin ov' s victory was well earned and lon g overdue . A fifth bolt was used to repair the Iigamen t and Sylvain was racing three weeks a fter his crash in France. "The leg is strong, Geboers said, bu t I need to gain more confidence in it before I can he one hundred percent. " I was able to do well in Holland because the course was similar to tracks near my h ome in northern Belgiurn, I love to ride in the deep sand, and I can go fas t on that type of track with hoth feet on the foot pegs. " He re in Czechoslovakia the track is so slick an d bumpy that the feet must be used to control th e bike. The small Czech town of Holice is surrounded by panoramic farmlands and enchanting dark forests . The town has been host to t he Czechoslovakian World Champions hip round for over a decade and the race organ izers are justifiably proud of their G rand Prix. Focal point for race weekend was the Holice Culture House which served as rider check-in, press bureau, awards auditorium and Test hall for two or .th ree late hour parties suffused with lusty fo lk music, pretty Czech girls and much toasting among friends. .
