useless , R ice h u ng in there . Sh if ting gears without th e clutch, steering
wi th his good right arm, he scrapped his way throu gh the pack an d was
seco nd going in to lap 25. Then, on the final straight, he ro ar ed int o the
lead and to o k the checkers . U nable to d isengage the clutch, Ri ce took
an extra lap to brake the bike to a stop , and toppl ed over. Only then did
an yone suspectthe in credible truth.
