seA Opens Season with So-So Rough Scrambles C. « ~ w Z W .J U >- U By Larry Knop Photos by Terry Newfanner OGDEN, UTA H, Marc h 12,19 72 - The Ogden Cycle Association's rough scrambles had the largest turnout of riders for a track race the state of Utah h as eve r seen. Two hundred sixty eight riders attended, co mpeting fo r trop hies and SRA Distric t 26 points. The competition got pretty fierce. One of the best races, and the biggest surprise of the day , came in the 200 Expert class wh ere Cal Cro sb y took two o ut of three h eats and the win fro m Kevin Croft. Followers of Utah racing know that Kevin was nearly unbeatable in the class last year, b ut Sunday Cal came from behind twice to put it to Kevin in a great exhibition of racing. 11 was a day of surprises. T h e only Expert class w hic h wen t as expected was the Open class, where Bob Brown beat Dennis Packard in a good race. Pete Crandall won the 125 Expert class, which is normal , b ut Jerry Davis and Bob Plumb made him really work at it, which is not. The 250 Expert class was almost as much a surprise as the 200. Preston Gerber didn't co ntest the track races last year, but this year w ith a good track bike. he took the Expert class win.
