EL TORO, CAL ., March 31 , 1972 The bike field was down at EI Taro
Speedway because of the Easter
Holidays, but the competition wasn't,
and Costa Mesa's Bruce Baron emerged
as the top winner in USMRC motocross
action.
Baron, riding the only 125 Husky in
competition in California at the present
time, let Davey Carlson (Yam) of
Anaheim get the jump in the first two
125 Intermediate/Expert mota's but
came on to handily win both. Carlson,
while lea ding the first rac e, hit tw o tire
co urse marke rs and dumped j ust past
the star t /fin ish line and Baron sailed by
to post a 30-yard victory while Carls o n
limp ed h om e fifth. Baron toyed with
the field in the seco nd an d w o n b y 50
yard s, b ut th e fin ale was a great BaronCarlson duel. Davey mad e a be autifu l
ou tside pass at t h e lin e an d hung o n to
edge Baron by a len gth .

in th e 250 clas s and after a third in the
op ening he at, captured t he final two;
the second over Mike Causey (Yam) of
Buena Park an d the third fro m Greg
Smith (Mai) o f Santa Ana. Smith got a

(Yam) of Garden .Gro ve took over later
o n t he ini tial ro und an d he ld a close
margin ove r Smith and Baron the rest of

th e tires at the pit ga te entran ce and

cra cked in a couple of p laces .
Causey made a game of try to ca t ch
Baron in mota numb er two, but he fell
short by five feet. In th e last h eat Bruce
made an exciti ng p ass in mid- air over
the jump to take the lead from T yer o n
lap tw o and to go o n to a 25-yard w in.
