Fra nklin was just too hot to day as he blasted ahead into first and went on to take the wi n with h is aIways-eonsistent powerfu l riding style. Parry Klassen (CZ) riding out Exceter Cycle passed Johnson to take second place. In the second round of the 250 Seniors, Martin Towne, on a very speedy Charley Brown CZ, jumped into an immediate lead - Parry Klassen was second .and Jerry Johnson third. Johnson really started to get it on and passed Klassen. Meanwhile Franklin had been picking up positions. A battle for second insues - heated as only two great riders like these can make it. Finally Franklin edged Jerry out for second. Franklin then started to work on Towne whoha d been b uilding q uit e a healthy lead for himself but Martin succumbe d to John's constant b adgerin g and d ropped to second . T he checkered flag found Frankli n taking firs t overall foll o wed by T o wne and J ohnso n. The 125 Seniors also provided hot an d h eavy actio n between Mar k Muscio (CZ) an d He nry Halbach (DKW) . The two battled fie rcely with H alb ach coming out the victor. T he second 12 5 Senio r was a carbon co py of the first with Halbach and Muscio agai n providing t h e action and third again going to Mik e Middleto n (Suz}, Halbach p rovid ed a bit of amus eme nt fo r the spectato rs wh en h e took a good j ump sans bike. The track had j u st been watered and He nry mu d-slid 50 feet. (Remember, there's a lot of rocks on that track) . He got up and finis hed the race in first position but was the dirtiest finisher, having mud h ead-to-fo ot. I'll bet h is bod was a mass of bru ises Monday morning! There is no doubt that the CMC North 's Junior Carabela . Series is drawing a lot of attention with many Juniors going great guns for one of the many contingency prizes being offered along with the 125cc Carabela Motocross bike for each Class. To m ak e it even more attractive, Cl\lC has added a $150 bonus along with the usual 10 0% payback to Senior riders. Carnegie Cycle Park and CMC North Owners are working on the idea of a sprinkler set up to hel p co mbat th e d us t d u ring the very dry p an of the year - besides it makes a "slicke r" course for guys like Halbach . Joh n Franklin, the farmer from Madera. shows the determination that earned him a 250 and 500 Senior win. Atta bo y . sp o rt , SACRAMENTO, CAL., March 1 7, 1972 - Evel Knievel, of Snake River fame, announced today that h e will begin filming of his new documentary in Sacramento during the first week o f April. T he new movie will wind its way fro m Sacramento to the Snake River in Idalto, wh ere Evel pl ans to jump the Snak e River Canyo n in his fab led Sk y-Cy cle later this y ear . On e o f the maj or stops in th e film ing o f his new sp ectacular will b e at Plymouth, California, where Evel will make one of his most fab ulous appearances, ever. On April 8, SRA Race Director Walt Vaughan will stage an AMA -sanctioned Sportsmen event for all classes at the famous Hangtown Track in Ply mouth. The following day, Evel Knievel and the CMC will stage a $6,000 purse Professional event, which is expected to draw all of th is country's top motocross riders. Sunday's event will be highlighted by tw o jumps to be attempted by Evel Knievel. T he first will be a death-defying jump over his standard barrier : automobiles pa rked sid e-by-sid e. A nd, in what has t o be his most spectacular j u mp to date , Evel will attempt a jum p over a 100 fo ot p it contain ing live, an d d eadl y poisonous rattlesnakes. And if that isn't enough, the pit will also be eq uip ped with two ferociously wild mountain lions! Need we say more?
