'" " .. '" a.. ... N CO> N :;; ::E ~ w Z W ...J U > U By Bill Spencer OAKDALE, CAL., Mar. 5,1972 - With professional racing only one of th e many facets of a racing career, former National Scrambles champ and still champio n of the District, Jim Foley showed the young 250 Experts what racing is all about with a great Main Event win. Foley played his strategy to the hilt with a fantastic start to take a slight advantage at the beginning. Coming from the back was Jeff Davidson to take the second spot and take a few lessons from the ' master. It won't be too long before Davidson is Foley Keeps CODling B a c k doing the leading. Foley knows full well that the likes of these young riders are tomorrow's champions. In the 500 Expert run , it was Alex J orgensen, jo lting the field ' with a beautiful blasting win on his well tuned J orgy Jorgensen BSA. Both Jorgensen and Mark Asbill put on quite a show of spraying the short scrambles facility and were well applauded at the end of the Main from the newly constru ct ed grandstand. This feature of the track appears to be ab le to withstand any earthquake that might come up in the near futu re and 1 suppose that means that racing at Pioneer Rodeo grounds is here to stay. Two youngsters that can set the world on fire are Del Smith and Phil Anderson. These two were part of a five man contingent of 650 Experts that put on a great sliding show that would be great on a half mile. The Nevada boys didn't go home empty handed as in the 250 J unior Main Tim Bell from Sparks and Jeff Loft, Carson City wiped out the competition. Jerry Wayne did just about the same in the 250 Novice. The battle was hard fought all the way and even included Leonard Acosta on a new Ossa. Quite a switch for Len and a deserved one afte r a nice first place in the heat.
