Eckert Photos by Jim & Robbins BOULDER CITY, NEV., Feb. 20, 1972 - It was another great day of motocross for Boulder City, Nevada. Last year the Boulder Cit y Dirt Riders co m p let ed what is probably the only motocross track on ground set aside by a com m u nit y for that purpose. The first race was held last September, and -th e ·seco nd race held on February 20 proved to be just as ex citing. For variety the ". Cl ". For info (o r to mak e reservatio ns for overnigh t camping) ca ll 714/586-7964. track was reversed for this second session and instead of a steep up hill with a tum midway, it was a fantastic downhill that dropped many of the loc k-y o ur-rear -wh eel set at the midway tum. The track was so challenging that the fastest time of the day was . set by the local hot shoe Bobby Davidson riding in the 125 Expert class. The Open class, however was a cro wd pleaser with a nice aerial display com ing off a fifteen foot uphill ramp. Over 100 riders turned out for this event with spectators numbering well over 500. This track represents a monumental undertaking for this club and is a credit to the small southern Nevada community. The next event to be held on th e Boulder City Motocross track is a benefit race for the Child Haven Center in Las Vegas. The race will be sponsored by the Motorcycle Racing Association of-Nevada and will be held o n A pril 2. We would enjoy seeing more So uthern Ca l ifo r n ia competition, and the moto cross is be ing held fo r a very worth y cause. (Resu lts on p age 40) t , AFM JOINS THE AMA R uss March, Executive Direc to r ' of the American Motorcycle Association, has anno unced the estab lishment of a working agreement between th e AMA Federation of and the American Motorcyclists. This agreement was established on February I , when the AFM joined the AMA as a chartered association. The A F;\\ was formed approximately 15 years ago in California for the purpose- of promoting road racing professionalism and safety. Today it claims about 600 active, licensed motorcycle racers and promotes between 18 -20 events per year. Through the years, AFM events have been the training grounds for su ch road race stars as Art Baumann. Ron Pierce, Mike Lane and Don Ernde, all of whom have graduated to the highly competitive AMA National Champ ionship circuit. By joining with th e AMA , AFM riders will now be able t o gain racing status on a national level while the AMA will ga in a group of road race specialists from which to draw experienced personnel t o run the safest races possible in the future .
