Don swep t the field in the 350 to Open G.P. rac e, on a gorgeous day at Willow Sp rings After an early challe nge b y Steve McLaughlin's monster Ho nda, which just go t to missin g worse and wo rse an d finally got rested in the p its, and another by George Kerker's Ho nda, which managed to end up out of gear in U~T=C= MAIL ORDER Turn One while in second place, Emde had it easy fro m there. Ker ker did manage to motocross to Tum Two but lost nine places, and a cha nce at the leaders, alt hough h e finished fourth overall. Ernde's victory was by more than a half a lap over Bo b Bailey (Tri) and Ron Pierce. Pierce was able to hold off the last-off-the-line Triumph for nearly all of the race, but was j ust out horsepowered. Pierce was not t o be denied in the 250 GP as he led it from wire to wire over Emde. Don made up a lot of time poppy 1750 ~, S. VICTORY PHONE 213 in the last three laps but it wasn't enough to catch the fast Pierce . Third went to Dine sens' n ew rider, Jim Evans, also on a Ya ma ha. In the other big bike race of the day, George Kerker cruised his Ho nda Four to an easy w in o ver Bob Endicott's Honda and the Kawasakis of Dick Kilgroe an d Dennis Pegelow, in the Heavyweight Produc tio n race. A protest in th e 35 0 Pro d uct ion class, won by Mike Woz niak, leaves t he result s read in g t his way: First Dick Fuller, second Barry Roberts and third Mike New desert demonstration rides: Devlin , all on Yamahas. T he firs t race of the day saw Rich Se ifried ride his Maico to an easy win in the 100 to 200 Sr. GP . He was followed by Greg Co ms tock, Chief Galb raith and Coli n Jo nes . Steve Froschauer, a usual contender, broke in practice, and was n't able to race. T h e winner of the 350 to Open J r . GP was David Racine on a 35 0 Ho nda, follow ed b y Dennis Pegelow (Kaw) and Ger h ard Klemm (Nor).
