MALONE'S BAD LUCK AIDS ROBERTSON '. , ..... ~ . By Ric h Hoffman IRVINE, CAL ., Feb. 13 , 1972-Gre~ Ro be rtson (CZ), Morris Malone (AJS) and Ron DeSoto (C Z) p ut on quite a show in the 250 Senior division of the ACA Mo tocross today at Saddleback Park. Ajay mounted Malone took the lead in the first moto with Robertson and DeSoto in hot pursuit. It looked like it was all Malone's until one small mistake and he was down. Undaunted, he remounted but could not catch the fast Robertson and was forced to settle for second. In the second mo to it was Malone aga in leading, b ut it wasn't his day as Robertso n again took t he lead with DeSoto second an d Morris winding up th ird. With t he final mo to on th e line, it was anybody's race as the ACA scoring system (O lymp ian style) had Robertson with t wo and Malone and DeSoto tied wit h five. II started lik e t he previo us two : Malone, Ro b ertso n a nd DeSo t o ru nnin g 1-2·3 un til Malo n e got into some trouble coming o ver t he jump' and Robertso n got by. For the rest of the mo to it wa s Robertson and Malone with the two never more than a few feet apart . Robertson held the lead with Morris taking a close second and DeSoto '" Don Stack 1881 and Marc Downs hassle it out in the 250 J rs, -zs: ~' ,," .. . Don Bevans (10) took third in the 500S r., Dennis Chandler (141 was second. NIW fROM t h ird . One of the best races of the d ay was the third moto of the 250 Jr. Div, II. It was the last race of the day so if yo u left early you really m issed it. Joh n ValIeman (Bul) and Eric S tro rnme r (CZ) were fantastic with the lead cha nging almost every lap . Strommer finally garnered the win with Vallema n seco nd and Bill Henderson third. Henderso n co nsis tantly did well and it paid off with a first overall for the day. Bruce McDougal (Pen) was overall winner of the 125 Senior division, b u t not without a battle as he came o ut on top of suc h top rid ers as R ueben Ben ite s (Pen), Terry Clark (H.D) and Bruce Baron (Pen) .
