Happy Birthday t o Jim Beauchamp. H is pals
present ed him w ith fo ur doughn uts w ith 17
matches stuck in them. No wond er he looks
so pleased.
usu al. H e was first unde r th e Checke r,
but only b y scant in ch es as Chuck
Bower an d J eff pressured h im all the
way . It was o n the first lap o f this m oto

firs t over all. He t ook ninth .
That close fin ish made a little tidbit
of helpfulness , o n the part of Jim
Beauchamp's
H·D
crew,
very
significant. It seems that Jeff was in
need of a drive chain, so the H·D people
provided him wi th one, after the first
moto, they were saying they should
repo the chain (just kidding). As things
turned out, maybe they should have.
The second moto had Tom Rapp
leading Jeff and J im under the flag as it
was Bowers tu m to do a n umber and
have to scramb le for fourth.
It was after this m o to that a b irthda y"
party was h eld in the p its . A paper

Congratulations and mu ch su ccess,Jim!
The last moto saw Jeff WFO fr om
th e drop of the flag; it was obvious that
he was not going to let anyone get close
and he d idn't. Bowers was h old ing
second, Rapp third, with Beauchamp
fourth . Then Lady Lucky go t fickle and
deserted Bea uchamp . His carb fe ll off.
After stuffing the ca rb back on the
intake, J im finished ninth . Wright,
riding with talent, sty le, and consistency
rolled up to the pay window first
overall, Bowers second, and Rapp third.

Rapp and Beauch amp we re tied for

the best finish in the last moto wins .
Billy Urban disp layed why he is No .
I, riding a scoot th at h e is not ye t wired
in on. Billy t raded first and seconds
with Gaylon Mosier, and as with the
125 Experts , the 250 Expert was up for
grabs in the final moto . It was Gr eg
Smith on h is Maico, who jumped out
front , wi th Mosier second, and Urban
third. They went six laps with Greg
holding off Mosier and Mosier holding
off Urban, but Greg t ired and slowed.
Urban passed Mosier's Maico and then
gassed his CZ by Sm ith as Smith went
wide in the downhill swe eper. Billy
stretched it out and took the flag go ing
aw ay.
Billy Urban , Jeff Wright, and Rich
Thorwaldson, (Rich, winner of the 500
Expert class) enjoyed a fine pay day.
Stu Peters paid out $1 10 to each of
them from a really good $630 purse.
Based on a 100% p urse fro m the Expert
entry fees, one can see that 63 Experts
were on hand, wit h only 37 m ore
needed, those $1000 p urses are just
around the co rn er.
