Co uld be th at he was a little p leas ed at be ing first T railbike? First 175 Amateur was Glen Poolenbaugh. Asked how he liked th e co urse, Glen grinned and said "When you do good, you gotta say you liked it." Glen was another rider who made the second loop on a Oat front tire. Second and third Trail Experts were Pat Dailey (Ric) and Bruce Og leby (H -D). At 1 :3 0 OCMC closed th e course and th e finish area rapidly filled up wit h gasp ing Novices. It became hard er and harder to tell w ho was where, but here's how we counted - and please, fellas, wait until you get the results from the club before you start dusting off a place to put your trophy, O .K .? First girl, and I'm pretty sure of this one, was Sharon Rosenauer (Ri c) . She looked p retty tired after her four-h our ride. Th e rest of these are a big MAYBE: First Novice was A rt Po rt er (Su z), o r maybe it was the Novice on the green Kawasaki who fell down both times at the home check and nobody got his nam e or number. ..never fear, it will be on the results in a c o up le of weeks when OCMC unscrambles the tank cards and tallies all the field checks. First 250 Novice was Dave Peterson (Bu l). I'm pretty sure about Dave's position, t oo , as he swooped right in th er e last week, too. Dave was fo llowed by 250 Novice Brent Johnson , (Bu l) . I'm sure there must have been a co uple of 175 Novices in that mess somewh ere, but if so I missed them sorry fellas . At 2:25 p.m. , three hours and fifty-five minutes after the Novice start, first and second T rai l Novices trudged across the finish line. Phil Harvey (Ric) an d Mar k Widric k (DKW) . Mark spelled h is nam e for m e about seve n times, but I'm still not su re I h eard hi m rig ht over the roar of all the bikes in the finish area. There was a massive, prolonged, heart-rendering snivel about the rocks and almost everyone had at least one Oat tire, but the riders who finished really dug the course . There were several complai nts fro m riders who tried to sign up at 5:30 Sat urday afternoo n and tho ught OCMC was a littl e too anxious to close up a nd get to their food ...but all in all it was a super-good race. I strongly suspect t h ere are a lot of Novices, making this their first race and thinking they are all this rough, who will go back to trail riding. Thanks for a fun weekend OC:\IC and I repeat - sheer genius was at work design ing your smog-free 'smoke-bomb '. RESU LTS EXPERTS J .N .
