Tucson Riders Beat Phoenix Riders in Sweepstakes By Ned Said BEARDSLEY, ARIZ., Dec. 26, 1971 A wheel-packed wet track made for some fast riding at Beardsley the day after Christmas. The boys from Tucson must have been good all year since they came up from Tucson with brand new 1972 Yamahas from Santa Claus and by the last race took the Sweepstakes I, 2 and 3. Cliff Allison was first on his 250cc Yamaha with Pat Klein second on a 250cc Yamaha and Allen Watson third on his I25cc Yamaha. The Ed Blose family had a good day with Earl Blose first in the.j r , Mini Bike heat and Bob Blose second. Bob Blose was second in 'the 125 Novice heat and third in the Main Event. Eddie Blose was third in the 125 Amateur Main. Earl Blose won the ~M in i Sweepstakes. Wonder where Ed gets the bread to keep that ma ny boys racing? Good guy Alan Watson from 'Tucson helped his fellow competitor Bobby Dias just before the 125 Amateur Mai n by loaning him his spare exhaust pipe when Bobby's stinger broke. It must have been a good design since Bobby took a commanding lead on the very first lap . Bobby Dias took the win with Alan Watson running second. Bobby Dias and his Spirit of 76 Yamaha also took first in the 250 Amateur heat and Main event. (Results on page 28)
