VOLUME 58 ISSUE 34 AUGUST 24, 2021 P69 MYOWNRACE 2 COOPER WEBB 5TH (5-6) 450MX "Today was a step in the right direc on," said Cooper Webb who is yet to find his Supercross Championship-winning speed outdoors. "I got a great start in moto one, pulled the holeshot and ran up front for a li le bit, ending up fi h. Second moto, I was running with those guys up front and they were really riding fast, I tried hanging in there as long as I could. I had a good ba le with Marvin [Musquin] at the end, and we were able to catch Chase Sexton there but ended up sixth in the moto and fi h overall, which is the best result so far this year." 6 JEREMY MARTIN 1ST (3-1) 250MX "Man, what a day!" Jeremy Mar n said. "In the first moto, I kind of got pushed wide at the start, and then I was trying to ride hard but wasn't going anywhere. Finally, I kind of found a groove there and started making some passes. We made some changes to the bike in the second moto, and I got the holeshot and was just riding on rails. I haven't been that comfortable since Washougal. It just feels really good to be able to push the limit out there. I know we're trying to beat these guys, but when you're giving it your all, and you feel like that, those are the good days." (Left) Dylan Ferrandis used his late-moto strengths to come away with the overall win, his fifth of the season. (Bottom left) Ken Roczen won the first moto and took second in the second moto. He fought hard for both and came away matching points with Ferrandis. all, he was 39 points ahead of Roczen with four rounds left going into Budds Creek, now he's 39 points ahead with three rounds to go. So, no loss in points at Budds Creek is indeed a gain for the Frenchman. In the 250MX class, things tightened up just a bit for the race for the championship with runner- up Jett Lawrence gaining one point on leader Justin Cooper, third at Budds Creek, narrowing the gap between the two to just three points. The day's win, however, went to Jeremy Martin who moved into third in the championship, though is still well in back of the two riders ahead of him. 450MX Roczen came into Budds Creek riding a wave of momentum after dominating both 450MX motos the previous week at Unadilla and was hoping to again chip away at Ferrandis' lead in the champi- onship, and it looked as though Roczen just might do that after he won the first moto at Budds Creek ahead of Ferrandis. For much of the moto, Roc- zen looked like he did at Unadilla but, this time, Ferrandis caught him at the end of the race and was right there when the checkers came out. In moto two, Roczen again got out in front early but eventually found himself desperately trying to stay ahead of Ferrandis, with Eli Tomac and Chase Sexton in his rear-view mirror as well. Ferrandis, who seems to always save his best for the second half of the motos, proved to be just too strong for Roczen on this exceptionally hot and humid day and passed him seven laps from the end. Roczen, however, didn't throw in the towel after getting passed by Ferrandis. He fought back, especially the last few laps, but a lapper slowed his progress and he would cross the finish line 4.8 seconds behind Ferrandis.
