LOOKING BACK
Our cover story was our coverage of the NMRA Suzuki Western National
drag races from OCIR, where Florida's Bo O'Brochta came away as the
Top Fuel winner. Terry Vance won the Pro Stock class... Scott Pearson
won the Tulsa Half-Mile, but Mike Kidd took over the points lead... Colin
Edwards won the Pee Wee Stock-class Championship at Ponca City
NMA motocross 40 years ago; Jeff Emig won the 83cc Stock Novice (-11)
class... Darell Davis and Robbie Blagg were some of the stars at the
National Amateur/Youth TT Scrambles Series in Michigan.
The AMA appeal board sided with Dick Mann and other riders regarding a
protest filed from the AMA National at Corona Raceway. Mann complained
of an unfair start procedure that prevented him and others from transferring
out of a semi. As a result, Mann was awarded points from his finish in the
semi, which was enough to put him in the championship lead, dropping
Gene Romero to second... We covered the Sedalia and Indy Miles won by
Cal Rayborn and Jim Rice... Cycle News offered $10 to every rider who
finished in the top 10 in the Trans-AMA Series, if they prominently displayed
a CN sticker on their motorcycle.
