Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Darryn Durham, who fell in the first moto, snatched the lead away from Hahn in the second moto, after Hahn grabbed his second-consecutive holeshot, and it looked like the stage was set for the first 1-1 performance for Baggett of 2013 as he pulled in behind his teammate out front, but Durham was game. Durham got below 2:02 on laps five and six while Baggett struggled to find a place to pass his teammate cleanly, but they were pulling away from the field, so perhaps Baggett didn't think he needed to be in too much of a hurry and hoped Durham would fade. Durham did fade into the 2:03s on lap nine, but that was still fast enough to match the quickest laps from Roczen or Musquin during the moto. What they couldn't have counted on was Tomac. Tomac again suffered a terrible start, and at the halfway point, he had just moved around Hahn and into third place seemingly miles behind the two Pro Circuit racers.
