ROUNDS 4-5/JUNE 22-23, 2013 BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK/LEEDS, ALABAMA P74 AMA DAYTONA SPORTBIKE "I was really having to charge the corners to make up the most time there," DiSalvo said. "But it was a tenuous balancing act throughout every lap, every corner because you have to figure if you charge too hard you're going to lose the drive out and that's going to amplify the disparity down the straights. So that was kind of my plan, make hay when I was going into the corners and try to limit the damage coming out." But the damage was done soon enough, however, when Gagne took over the lead on the RoadRace Factory Yamaha. He held it for a short time before Beaubier came to the fore. Gagne and DiSalvo stayed close for about half the race before Beaubier found that little extra to AMA GOPRO DAYTONA SPORTBIKE SERIES open a fissure. At the checkered flag it was Beaubier over Gagne by 5.185 seconds with DiSalvo another four-and-half seconds behind Gagne. "We had a really good setup today," said Beaubier, who swept last year's DSB races at Barber as well. "We worked a lot on setup. My bike was super comfortable all race. I went with the soft [tire compound] and tried to conserve it a little bit at the beginning. With about 10 laps to go I started pushing pretty hard and tried to make a little gap to make it easier on myself in the last couple of laps because I know both these guys are really good riders in the last couple of laps." Sunday's race had a slightly James Rispoli (43) leads Garrett Gerloff (8), Dane Westby (5) and JD Beach (95) in Saturday's race. different dynamic. This time Beaubier took the lead on the second lap from fast-starting DiSalvo and within a couple of laps already had a .6 of a second lead. But then Gagne moved up and turned in a series of laps faster than the leader and pulled right up to Beaubier. Even though he closed the gap relatively quickly, once on Beaubier's rear tire Gagne showed no threat of passing. It was hard to tell if he was biding his time for a late-race charge, or simply couldn't go any faster and therefore couldn't pass for the lead. Turns out it was the latter.
