MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 4 / JULY 3, 2021 REDBUD MX / BUCHANAN, MICHIGAN P66 to just try to get back into my groove." "It was a big crash," said Ferrandis of his rival's get-off, which he had a front row seat to see. "Then it took me two laps to recover a little bit before charg- ing for the end. It was difficult. You never want to see your rivals down. I was surprised because Ken doesn't really crash very often like this. It took me two laps to get back in the mindset of trying to win the race." Having a quiet but successful day was yet another Monster En- ergy Star Racing Yamaha rider, Christian Craig. His 5-5 moto finishes gave him fifth overall on the day. "It was a super fun day at RedBud," said Craig, one of nine riders—six on 250s, three do good things this season, so I'm just going to go back, get some rest and come back firing at Southwick. We're just going to put it behind and keep having fun." KAILUB'S ROCKY RIDE Off-road star-turned-motocrosser Kailub Russell had another rough day on the Red Bull KTM 250, crashing out of the first moto when his bike seemed to cut out on the face of an uphill triple, and then tweaking his ankle the second time out. "Overall, I'm not super stoked on how anything went today," said Russell who started the series late due to injury. "I tried to turn it around and felt like I rode better as the day wore on, but I didn't set the tone straight away. I've had a problem with my ankle ever since I broke my jaw, and I've got it taped up, but it's just not strong enough. In the second moto, I was going around the turn and I kind of dabbed my foot and the back tire kind of sucked it up and tweaked it pretty hard. It's one of those where you immediately think the worst because it takes the breath out of you and you're kind of stuck there for a second, so that was pretty much the end of my day." LAROCCO'S LEAP Several riders ended up with broken wheels on the infamous LaRocco's Leap, which was more difficult to leap out of the hairpin corner at the bottom. Max Anstie, Marvin Musquin and Alex Ray all suffered broken wheels. A few 250s tried it, from the outside berm, even after Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawa- saki's Austin Forkner went over the bars during the first timed qualify- Briefly... Justin Cooper (32) is chased by the Lawrence brothers, Hunter (41) and Jett (18). Cooper won the second moto but settled for second overall.
