uneven day. Just like the previous round at High Point, Tomac had a decent but not spectacular first moto, finishing fourth. But in the sec- ond moto he seemed to find the old spark that took his to three straight 450 Pro Motocross titles, overtaking Plessinger for the lead and then not allowing Ferrandis to catch him at the end. Tomac's 4-1 finishes were good for a series-best second overall. "The fans today were awe- some," said Tomac afterwards. Dean Wilson had crashed. Fer- randis seemed to notice the flags at the last second and checked up, though he did jump. Roczen, on the other hand, launched the tabletop outright. But then Hampshire fell yet again while leading, handing it back over to Cooper. This time he did not quite put the same late charge in, but his runner-up finish was enough for the overall win. "The track today was one of the best of the season," said Fer- randis, summing up the feelings of most in the paddock. The day wasn't without some controversy for the Frenchman, as well as Team Honda's Ken Roczen, his primary rival so far this summer. As the two battled for the lead on the second-to-last lap of the first 450 moto, they came upon waving red and white "wheels on the ground" flags leading up to a blind tabletop where Rockstar Husqvarna's MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 4 / JULY 3, 2021 REDBUD MX / BUCHANAN, MICHIGAN P64 (Left) Christian Craig (29) flew under the radar with a pair of fifth- place finishes for fifth overall, while Supercross Champ Cooper Webb (2) is still struggling to find his way outdoors. (Right) RJ Hampshire could've thrown in the towel after crashing multiple times, but he pushed on and was rewarded with the overall win the 250MX class.
