LOOKING BACK
Terry Vance was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago
for winning his 10th straight NMRA Pro Stock National in Hartford,
Connecticut, aboard a Suzuki GS-1100... Mark Barnett and Chuck
Sun won the 125cc and 500cc Motocross Nationals, respectively, at
RedBud. Barnett won both 125cc motos and Sun and Broc Glover
traded moto wins in the 500cc class... Gary Scott took over the GNC
points lead by winning the Topeka Half-Mile... Donnie Hansen was
the big winner at the Mammoth Mountain Motocross.
We celebrated an American success story in Europe, putting motocrosser
Bryan Keeney on the cover for winning a major international motocross
event in France 50 years ago. He was one of the first Americans ever
to do so... We had full coverage of the National Road Race from Kent,
Washington, where Dick Mann and Kel Carruthers battled back and forth
for the win. Mann ended up the winner with Carruthers taking second after
suffering a mechanical issue with his bike's transmission... Gary Jones was
the top American finisher at the Inter-AMA MX in Texas. Czech Vlastimil
Valek took the win.
