PHOTOGRAPHY BY BROWNDOG WILSON I n a tumultuous day of racing in front of a packed house at High Point Raceway, Dylan Ferrandis took the 450MX overall win with 2-2 moto finishes, while Florida's Jalek Swoll scored the first win of his professional career with 1-3 finishes in the 250MX class. The win for Ferrandis was his second in the first three rounds of the 2021 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series, and it al- lowed him to take back the points lead from Honda's Ken Roczen after a fierce second-moto battle between the two. Roczen settled for 3-3 finishes on the day for fourth overall, as the two 450MX moto winners—Monster Energy Kawasaki teammates Adam Cian- ciarulo (1-4) and Eli Tomac (6-1) split the two points leaders. Fer- randis now has a three-point lead going into the RedBud National in Michigan in two weeks. "It was a crazy day at High Point. I didn't feel the greatest in moto one but managed to finish second," said Ferrandis (Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha). "I rode much bet- ter in moto two. I got a better start and had a big battle with my clos- est rivals in the championship and finished second again. Getting the overall, and also to get the red plate back, is a dream come true." In winning the 250MX class, Rockstar Husqvarna's Jalek Swoll became just the second African- American to ever win an outdoor national, joining James Stewart in a very elite club. Swoll won the first moto after his teammate RJ Hampshire's bike suffered a mechanical on the 12th of 16 laps. Swoll then backed it up with a third in the second moto for his maiden victory and podium. "To get my first outdoor podium and kick it off with a win is amaz- ing," said the 21-year-old Swoll. "Right now, I just want to build off this, keep it going and try to do it again next weekend. I was actu- ally so tired, but I just dug deep—I knew I could do it; I've put in the hours and training for this. I'm at a loss for words right now." VOLUME 58 ISSUE 25 JUNE 22, 2021 P57 DYLAN FERRANIDS AND FIRST-TIME 250MX WINNER JALEK SWOLL STAR AT HIGH POINT Dylan Ferrandis didn't get a moto win, but a pair of two's gave the Yamaha rider the overall win and the red plate once again.
