said. "[I] hit a soft spot when I
landed off a jump and the front
end just knifed on me. I've been
managing a left fractured wrist
to the scaphoid for months and
a bum left shoulder. I still felt like
I could be competitive to win rac-
es and contend for this outdoor
championship. Unfortunately,
stuff happens and it's time to get
healthy."
David Clabaugh's Thunder
Valley MX Park has been hosting
rounds of AMA Pro Motocross
ever since 2005. The fast, rough
course was on the slightly dry
side for Saturday's race after
heavy winds throughout the pre-
vious night. The race attracted
a very big and boisterous crowd
as fans came out in droves as
local health restrictions were
loosened, though not enough
quite yet for the pro paddock to
be opened to fans. The Shane
Schaefer-designed track had
several big step-up jumps and
offered lots of room for pass-
ing, perhaps best highlighted
in a dramatic first 450MX moto
that saw several lead changes
between Roczen, Ferrandis
and Monster Energy Kawasaki's
Adam Cianciarulo, the last of
which came when Ferrandis
overshot the last corner with two
laps to go, surrendering the lead
to Roczen.
"I enjoyed both motos, and
I really enjoyed the first one,"
said Roczen who last won the
450MX crown in 2016 and is
now looking for Honda's first title
in this class since Ricky Carmi-
PAIN IS BACK
Defending 450MX Championship
Zach Osborne pulled out of the
second 450MX moto after feeling
pain in his back again. Osborne
has been dealing with back pain all
year and seemed to be getting the
upper hand on it lately, but he felt a
flare-up in the first moto and slipped
back to 16th after getting off to a
fast start. He did not start moto two.
ANDERSON SIDELINED
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's
Jason Anderson was a no-show in
Colorado. The former Supercross
Championship suffered a broken
hand while training at his home in
New Mexico. The team estimates
that he'll be out of action for six to
eight weeks.
THUNDER VALLEY
NOTES:
Stilez Robertson (250MX) suffered
mechanical issues that resulted in
two DNFs on the day... Jeremy
Martin's first-moto win was his 36th
career moto victory... Jerry Robin
(FCC Motorsports) forced officials
to wave the red flag after he fell and
was struck by another rider and was
momentarily knocked unconscious
on the first lap of the first 250MX
moto... One of only two Suzukis in
the 250MX field finished in the top
10 overall. BarX/Chaparral/Ecstar
Suzuki's Dilan Schwartz gave the
company something to smile about
after going 8-12 for ninth overall...
Alex Martin (250MX) crashed dur-
ing practice at Thunder Valley and
broke his arm. It's the second time
this season that both Martins, Alex
and Jeremy, were hurt in the same
race.
Briefly...
(Above) Friends
Roczen (94) and
Adam Cianciarulo
(9) had an intense
battle for the lead
in the first moto.
Cianciarulo made an
aggressive pass but
Roczen came out
on top. (Left) Dylan
Ferrandis proved
that his Pala win the
previous week was
no fluke. He rode
well again, going 2-2
for second overall.
