38 AUSTIN FORKNER
11TH (13-8)
Aus n Forkner is another rider who
hasn't put up the numbers that many
had expected. "I didn't ride that great
today," he admi ed, "but I know I can
do be er than what my results are
showing. My [bike] is like a rocket out
there, my fitness is good and I'm confi-
dent I can get the job done. Now it's up
to me to prove it. This off-weekend will
be a nice break, but I'm already looking
forward to the next round and hope-
fully ba ling with the lead group."
MYOWNRACE
24 RJ HAMPSHIRE
10TH (3-19) 250MX
RJ Hampshire had a great first moto
but a small crash early in moto two
ended his hopes of a podium. "I felt
great on the bike again today. I was
comfortable and I knew we had a
pre y good bike going into the motos,"
Hampshire said. "I got a good start in
moto one and probably did one of the
best motos I've ever done in my pro
career. In moto two, we got a good
start and made a simple li le mistake
that cost me big me. It's a bummer
because it definitely doesn't show how
good we were riding and how good of
a spot we're at physically right now. I
rider won the first moto handily
only to crash early in the sec-
ond moto and suffer a broken
hand. Lawrence and Martin had
entered the series tied on points
after the opener, but now the red
plate is in the sole possession of
Jett Lawrence.
"Going 2-2 doesn't feel like
a win," Cooper said. "I got beat
both motos, but we'll take it. We
won and we got good points, but
it's not the way you want to do it.
You at least want to win a moto.
I definitely had my work cut out
for me in both motos and had a
tough time with guys coming up
on me. We gave it our all and
made huge steps in the right
direction—I don't think we were
even close last weekend."
With Jeremy Martin out for the
foreseeable future, Jett Law-
rence now leads Cooper by 10
points (90-80). Martin is ranked
third right now with 72 points but
will likely miss the next several
rounds.
"Really bummed about my
second moto crash," Martin
