moments that were pretty hairy."
Jake Lewis broke through on Sunday
and turned the tables on his training
partner Beach to score his first Daytona
SportBike podium. He nipped Beach by
a half a wheel at the line.
"I led coming out of the last turn and
JD started to draft by me,' said Lewis,
a former AMA Horizon Award winner. "I
got a little side draft and was able to just
get him at the line."
Beach was fourth and then there was
a big gap back to Gerloff, who held off
Dane Westby and James Rispoli for fifth.
Beaubier heads to Barber with a
15-point lead in Gagne, 89-74. Gerloff is
a distant third in the standings with 57
points.

Briefly...
were openly wondering why
Herrin would have given away
a secret like that if it improved
his bike so much, so there
was some speculation as to
how valid his statements regarding his tire pressure really
was.
Tornados raked through
Oklahoma in the days leading up to Road America and
even on the weekend of the
race, leaving several riders
from the Sooner State thinking of home. "My house is five
or six miles from my mom's
and tornadoes came right in
between the two of them,"
said Danny Eslick, who lives
in Broken Arrow. "As far as I
know everybody's good. I
talked to my neighbor and
everything is still standing.
There's some tree damage
and other stuff, but we definitely got lucky. It's sad what
happened in Oklahoma City
and Moore. The National
Guard and the Red Cross
are helping clean all that stuff
up, so God bless to all those
people." Dane Westby, who
is from Tulsa, reported that
the tornadoes near his house
were less powerful than the
ones near Oklahoma City.
Dustin Dominguez, from
Norman, said tornadoes hit
his community on Friday of
race weekend and he didn't
even know yet if his place had
sustained any damage.
Martin Cardenas was married on April 5 in Medellin to
his girlfriend Karen Arbelaes.
Cardenas said it was a simple
ceremony. "No church, we
just went and signed and that
was it," he smiled. Cardenas
lives full time in Colombia and
commutes to the U.S. for the
races.
Jake Zemke was on hand at
Road America, doing some
coaching with Joey Pascarella. Zemke is hoping to
do some World Endurance
events later this summer with
BMW France. He added that
he brought his leathers to
Road America just in case any
opportunities came up.
When you think of Danny Eslick at Road America images
of him backing in his bike
completely sideways under
heavy braking come to mind.
Eslick admits he's had to modify that hang-it-out racing style
a bit on the National Guard/
Jordan Suzuki GSXR1000
Superbike. "These big bikes
are a little less forgiving than
the 600s," he said. "So you
definitely have to ride a little
bit more in line. But there are
going to be times I'm sure I'll
get it kicked out with the good
sponsor plug with the bike
completely sideways."
Tyler Linders suffered multiple pelvis fractures and
breaks in his right foot from
Sunday's Supersport pileup
crash; Caroline Olen sustained shoulder injuries that
will require surgery; and Ricardo Valdez reportedly has
ankle and pelvis injuries.
