FEBRUARY 27, 1991
Ted Hunnicutt made the cover of Cycle News for winning what was, at
the time, one of the longest running races in the desert, the Moose Run,
which was a round of the AMA National Championship season... The CMC
Golden State National Motocross Championship wrapped up at Glen Helen
with Rodney Smith, Willy Surratt and Mike Healey all coming away
with number-one plates... Amateur supercross racers got the chance to
compete on the same track as the
pros the night before at San Diego's
Jack Murphy Stadium. The top rider
was Donald Upton... We tested the
1991 BMW R100GS

The 125cc East Supercross Championship got underway in Indianapolis
where Travis Pastrana took the win and landed on the cover of Cycle
News 20 years ago. Ricky Carmichael won again in the premier 250cc
class... Alan Cathcart tested Australia's Hunwick Harrop Phantom 1500
performance street bike. We also ran Cathcart's racer test on Pier-Francesco
Chili's Corona Suzuki GSX-R750 World Superbike machine... The CN staff
also tested the 2001 KTM 125SX motocrosser... Brian Garrahan won the
AMA National Hare Scrambles opener at Hollister Hills, California.
