P98 50 Years Ago FEBRUARY 16, 1971 LOOKING BACK We took a close-up look at some of the latest flat trackers on the circuit, including Team Honda's water-cooled short tracker that was pictured on the cover 40 years ago... The AMA Supercross Series got underway at Anaheim Stadium 40 years ago. Team Suzuki's Kent Howerton came away with the win over teammate Mark Barnett and Yamaha's Mike Bell... Danny "Magoo" Chandler won the DG Golden State MX round at Carlsbad Raceway... We tested the Triumph 750 Bonneville. 40 Years Ago FEBRUARY 11, 1981 Flat trackers invaded Ascot Park for the first pro race of the year. All of the country's top riders attended, including Gene Romero, Jim Odom, Dave Aldana, Keith Mashburn and Kenny Roberts. But, when all was said and done, it was Tom Rockwood who took the big win... J.N. Roberts keeps winning in the SoCal desert... Hawaiian John DeSoto was in Texas, where he dominated motocross racing at Cyclesports Park in Houston... Malcolm Smith and teammate Ed Shinault won the Laguna Salada 200 in Baja; the father/son duo of Larry and Earl Roeseler finished third overall on a 125. Yamaha created this add after Yamaha of Troy's Justin Buckelew won the 125cc main at the San Diego Supercross 20 years ago. Danny Hamel won the opening round of the AMA Hare & Hound National Series at Lucerne 30 years ago.
