pretty much the last one [left] on
the line. I was everywhere [off the
start], just trying to make passes.
"I stayed in fifth, I figured out,
until the end of the first loop because [Robert] Underwood was
in front of me. I was following
him and I got him right before
the finish of the first loop. (Underwood ended up running out
of fuel and would finish the first
loop 18th, later taking a DNF.)
After that I was trying to make
up time all day."
Levii Hutchings powered
through on the final loop to fifth
overall, making him the top A
rider for the first time this season
and 250cc A winner for the second time on his West Weld Industries/FMF/Fineline Suspension
KTM 250 XC. Running into a few
competitors who crashed in front
of him off the start didn't help, but
he got up quickly, resumed racing and made up ground.
Some of the B
wave leaves the
line more or less
under control.
"I was kind of bummed with
how dusty it was, but it turned
out really good," he said. "I kind
of got hooked up with [eventual
Vet A winner Dan] Capparelli; it
seems like we always get hooked
up together out there.
"Skyler [Howes] told me I was
seventh overall at the first pit.
"It was really the third loop that
everything started clicking really
well for me. I felt really good; I
wasn't burned out; I was standing
