LOOKING BACK
Pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago was BMW's R80G/S
to accompany our review of what we said was a gentleman off-roader's
compromise. It sold for $4800... Kawasaki introduced its crown jewel of
street bikes, the GPz1100. Kawasaki also revealed its KDX420 with Uni-
Trak suspension... The DG Golden State MX Series visited Lake Madera,
where Rex Staten (250cc and 500cc) and Danny Chandler (125cc)
came away with the Pro-class wins.

We looked for places to ride your motorcycle in Southern California
and passed our findings along to you, and a photo from Willow Springs
local road racing was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years
ago... We visited Osteen's Bike Park, a motorcycle riding park that
was co-run and funded by Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Claude
Osteen... Numbers one and two in the desert, Whitey Martino and
Rich Thorwaldson, finished that way at the latest desert race in Red
Mountain, California.
