LOOKING BACK
Our cover story 40 years ago was the first-ever stadium trials competition
held in Southern California, which was part of a the three-day event. It
included the V.O.T.E. Night Stadium Trial, and Schreiber Cup and El Trial
de Espana which were held outdoors... Motocross racing got started in
earnest in 1981 with the opening round of the DG Golden State Series
at Saddleback Park. Darrell Schultz and Broc Glover were the big
winners... We took a close-up look at Pat Eagan's AFM Championship-
winning Honda Hawk.

JANUARY 14, 1981
We started off the new year with the news that off-road riding on public
and private land in much of Southern California had been banned,
unless you had written permission by the land owner... We reported
that a crackdown had begun to lower the number of entries for CMC
motocross events at Carlsbad Raceway. So many riders showed up that
eventually many of them were turned away at the gate... J.N. Roberts
started 1971 off with a win at the Pasadena M.C. Hare Scrambles.
