LOOKING BACK
Our cover story 40 years ago was the "unorganized" Barstow-to-Vegas
trail and road ride. Both off-roaders and on-roaders participated, and
an estimated 600 riders in all turned out. Cycle News also hosted a
B-to-V Road Ride and Poker Run which raised more than $1200 for the
defender of off-road motorcyclists' land use rights... We featured a riding
impression of the 1981 KTM 390 WR off-road bike which retailed for
$2592... BMW revealed its 1981 lineup.

We featured a photo from packed Saddleback Park of Bengt Aberg and
Ake Jonsson at the final Inter-Am Motocross of the year. An estimated
12,000 motocross fans came out and watched Jonsson take the win after
a good battle with Aberg... We covered the inaugural motocross race
at Claude Osteen's Bike Park in Pomona, California. Osteen was a star
pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team... We showed you
some of the latest bike from BSA and Triumph.
