next day on Tuesday. Despite still dealing with a
sore back that he injured while practicing earlier in
the championship, this proved to be not a problem
for the EnduroCross veteran who went 3-3-3 for
third overall to sew up the championship with eight
points to spare over Webb.
"Tonight [Tuesday], I was pushing as hard as
I felt like I needed to on an oversaturated track,"
Haaker said. "It was really wet in the first moto, so
I took it easy and let the race come to me and fin-
ished third. I ultimately finished third in each moto
but each race I got more comfortable with being
in the position I was in. You just had to be smart
out there. This year was really tough for me, I had
a bulged disc in my back at round two, and since
then I've been fighting it really hard, but I'm happy
to come away with my fourth title."
Haaker came into the final two rounds holding a
modest points lead over Webb, who whittled it down
to just 10 points after taking his first overall win of
the championship on Monday at the penultimate
round. (The victory was also Webb's first on his new
FactoryOne Sherco in AMA EnduroCross.) Although
Haaker won two of the three featured races on Mon-
day, a fall in race two, which resulted in a mechani-
cal issue with his bike that forced him to stop briefly
for repairs, ended any chance he had of taking the
overall victory that day. Haaker's 1-6-1 results were
no match for Webb's more consistent 3-1-2 placings
and the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider, Haaker,
had to settle for second overall on Monday.
A quick check of the calculator showed that
Haaker needed to finish sixth overall or better to
wrap up the championship at the series finale the
