FLAT TRACK AMERICAN FL AT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS 5-6 / SEPTEMBER 5-6, 2020 ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUNDS / SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS P72 (Latus Motors Racing/Probeam, Harley-Davidson XG750R) and Ben Lowe (Roof Systems of Dal- las TX/Bruce Lowe Excavating, Kawasaki Ninja 650) bunched behind. Indianapolis winners, Lowe and Rispoli, moved to the front briefly before Ryan Varnes (RVR/ RoyBuilt/Don's Kawasaki, Kawa- saki Ninja 650) stormed to the front. Somehow Varnes was able to hold the lead the rest of the way, but not by much. Chad Cose (Wally Brown Rac- ing/Roof Systems of Dallas, Har- ley-Davidson XG750R) worked his way into second and Rispoli started to fade. Lowe also kept applying pressure as defend- ing class champion Cory Texter doubleheader proved. Of the 16 starters in Sunday's race only 12 riders finished on the lead lap, including Carver who coasted across the line almost 21 sec- onds back in 11th. AFT PRODUCTION TWINS Unlike the AFT SuperTwins class there does not seem to be a dominant brand or rider yet, early in the 2020 season. The Production Twins run a 10-min- ute-plus-two-lap main events and the action at the front of the pack was intense. Danny Eslick (Scott Powersports/R&D Machine, Kawasaki Ninja 650) with Jer- emiah Duffy (Sammy O Racing/ ERT/Mike Butler Racing, Kawa- saki Ninja 650), James Rispoli third, almost seven seconds ahead of Bronson (Indian Mo- torcycle/Progressive Insurance, Indian FTR750), Fisher and Bryan Smith, Dalton Gauthier and Jarod Vanderkooi all on Harley- Davidson/Vance & Hines backed Harley-Davidson XG750Rs. "I've raced a lot of Springfield Miles from like 2002 on, and this was one of the most different Springfield Mile racing lines I've ever raced," said Mees. "I'm not saying that in a bad way. It was cool that we had a really differ- ent track from yesterday to today, and it was just down to which team and rider could adapt to it the quickest." The high-speed mile is notori- ously hard on engines as the Ryan Varnes (68) won Saturday's Production Twins final.
