Novice rider Jack Biery was the m an of the
day - and four score yea rs - as he ce lebrated
his 80th birthday by completi ng tw o hot
motos. Sharp as a t ac k and as tenacious as a
team of pi t bu lls, he is an insp irati on to us all.
Mighty as Bi ery is. he could n' t quite pass Jim
Willia ms. wh o wrapped up both wi ns , o r Ed
Rodzach . who took two sec ond -place slots in
th e Novice cla ss.

Gazafy got off to an early start in m ot a t wo

Expert rid er Philip Cruz ca me out with th e
ho leshot and led things from sta rt to fi nish to
coll ect th e win . A hard-ch argin g Randy Bruc e
raced across th e c he c kers in second. Cruz
on ce again too k top honor s in m ot a two , as he
ran ahead of all th e others. Bru ce stalled his
Kaw asak i on the last lap, and th at just paved
th e wa y for Nick Costello to c ap tu re seco nd
pla c e.
Ron Wutzke was the top Amate ur fo r two
fast laps. Then M ichael Neal sli pped past and
fini shed th ings wi th a nice wi n three lap s later .

a roll and took another first in mota two after
chasing a fast and determined Larry Fi sher,
who had led th e act ion for three laps but
ended up in second.

tow . Sto ne pulled out a IO -second lead on th e
first lap . He enc ount ered some slic k rock s and
th en ran off th e tra il into a creek . Burga rd got
by for th e lea d.
"We were going through a grass-track sec~
ti on and Burgard made a wrong tum," Stone
said . '" foll owed him . Jo nes saw our m istake
and got us both."

" Next year, I' m going to run the National
Hare Scr am bl es Series." sai d Burgard. "That
will be a big step for me. I' m go ing to have to
tra in hard to do well in the thr ee-hour races."

not for lo ng , as Penrod zap ped Ro se again
dow n th e Freeway. Pen rod ca me home with
the win, but he was exhausted .
" T his felt great to da y . b ut the c o ld and
bei ng inju red in the fall made m e very tired ,"
Penrod reported . "I j ust held on th ose last two
laps out of sheer determina tion."

while the oth er guys were on 250 s," Ro se said .

" I rode good in the fir st pa rt of the rnoto,
but I c ra m ped up and ga ve away th e win ,"
Gaylord said. "It was fun. and much thanks to
the Dutch Sport Pa rk c r ew for hav ing this
event all yea r long . It made for gr eat racing,
and I ma de som e good m on ey. I ca n' t wait fo r
next year !"
