NOV. 25 By wi nn in g the ell- important second mo ta, KTM ride r Mike Hort on was able to top a high ly com peti tive field of Vet Intermediate racers during Racin g Enterprises Motorsports ' weekly Saturday m otocross. Wh en things got going in moto o ne , MX Racer's D onn Maeda, o n a Honda CR250, took the holeshot. Th ere was a big pileup in tu rn two tha t resulted in a few ri ders o n the gro u nd i n a tang led h eap . W he n t he dust cleared, Horton, aboard h is Z-Racing KTM 520 SX , was running seco nd, w hile No Fear backed Jim N aeg le hel d third. Jay Pavolec came th rou g h the sco ri ng section in fo urth , and Ken Mallow fi lled ou t the top five. Mae da m an aged to scratch out a one -second lead early . th ou gh Hort on was not letting him get away . Ma llow was m oving up; he passed both Pavo lec and Nae gle to tak e over third. Aneth er rid er co mi ng forward was Jim Henn. wh o had been in volved in the carna ge at the start. By halfway , Henn had moved his Pro Va lv e Race Service -prepped YZ 125 all th e way up to fifth after rest art ing dead last. Mea nwhile, things had begu n to heat up out front as Horton clo sed in on Ma eda . Ju st as it loo ke d like a good battle for the lead was heating up , Horton bobbled and spotted Maed a a three -second ga p . Henn relent lessly charge d forward, and with two laps to go he was up to third and right on Hort on 's fend er . Ma eda conti nued mistak e-free all the way to the checke rs for th e m oto w in . Horton wa s ab le to keep Henn beh ind h im for second , whil e M all o w ca me in fourth and Pavolec was fifth. In m ot a two , Maed a ripped an oth er ni ce holeshot. Horton ga ted well and sli d in behi nd hi m , while Henn avoided tr ou bl e th is tim e an d had his Yama ha singing at a hig h pi tch in third. Ma llo w was fo urth and Naegle held fifth. Horton liked the cl ear tra ck in fr ont of him , and he powered to a three- second lead. Maeda finally relented to Henri' s pr essure. and he turned over the seco nd spot wi th two laps to go . Horton didn't le t up, and he took th e c hec k ered fla g wi th five seconds to spare. Henn was nex t best, and Maed a lo ped in for thi rd . Mallow was fo urth , an d Nae gl e took fifth.
