Sp eedwa y bike in the pits , th ree round s of
pr actice were organized to acclimate the riders
to th e 44 0 -y ard . D- shap ed . bank ed . hard pack ed cl ay oval.
Kemp emerged as th e faste st and al so the
mos t spe ctacular ri der, wit h huge c o r ne r
sli des , wheelies and a couple of laydowns. The
New York riders were picking up considerable
speed eac h lap but th ey m issed one practice
sessio n du e to the gear/ chassis changes.

alm ost prev ent ed fro m pr ep ping for th e ma in .
Th e fo ur- lap m ain-event lin eu p wa s in th e
finishing orde r of the heat, with Lengle aga in
on the 10. alt hough his smooth riding style
kept him from being la p pe d in t h e heat.

Kemp was on a mission and was leading b y
the back straight, and he led th erea fte r until
tum th ree on th e wh ite -flag lap. Kemp ca rried
a ton of speed int o th e tum , and it c arr ied him
high into th e cus hio n an d he almost had co ntr ol at the berm. but when th e bike caug ht ai r
ov er the berm and he hit th e de w-wet g ras s, it
wa s ov er
he tumbl ed . with th e bik e lay ing
do wn, and he rolled up to th e spect ato r fence .
A ll th e whi le. " Putt Putt " Parsons wa s doing
any thi ng but living up t o hi s ni cknam e. He
had been pa cin g Kemp, and now he took an
exciting win over a clo sing Co rne ll , Sherw ood,
Sunderland and Lengle.
Kemp got up and pushed hi s bike back to
th e pits with so m e assi stance . He was very
d isappointed and dejected , but he joined in
th e huge applause fr om the fans and rid er s
alike for Parsons .

Starwest brought out some new talent an d
som e lo ca l favo rites . Local Pro ride r D ann y
Carlson earned so me extra cas h, as he was
able to take bo th ho leshots and uncontested
wins in the 12 5cc Pro class. Suz uki- backed
Carl son , who was t esting his new Supe rcr oss
bike for 200 I. looked gre at as he pr ov ed he
will be one to watc h in the 125cc West Division Su percross Seri es. Joel Nelson was t he
only ri de r who was ab le to kee p Ca rlso n in
sig ht, ta ki ng th e seco n d~ p lace po siti on in each
m ot o. T he ba ttl e for third between J oe Hargett
and Br ia n M cCu ll och wen t to Hargett in the
fi rst m ot a . In th e second mota , th e battle
intensi fied; McCulloch was able to get by Har ·
gett for th ird place and th ird overall .
In th e 80cc Beg inner ( 12- 16 ) class, D on
Gr een t ook th e first-moto ho leshot and t he
early iead . foll ow ed by ne w ta len t Kai Gavi t
and Bu ddy Greene . D on Green was in total
c o ntro l as he t oo k t he chec ke re d fla g , followed by Ga vit and Bu ddy Green e. In th e seco nd m ot a , Do n Green again took the lead,
with Gavit not too far behind . Green once
again was able to hold off Gavit for the win .
Gavit took seco nd . and Buddy Greene, experienc ing so me m echanical problems. was not
able to hold on to third. Shawn Hillion took
over to round out the top three.

o n October 29th to torch the c ompetition in
the com bined 60cc contest. He igni ted off th e
start line, ro cketing out to a quick lead, with
Jeagher LaFountain e , Lance Kinshella and
Dylan Henderson giving c h a se . As Keala makia stead ily improved his lead , LaFoun·
taine was settl ing into a not-to-be-challenged
sec ond place. Hend erson and Dill an Glenden nin g were go ing t oe to toe fo r th ird. Keala makia waltzed home with th e win. laFountaine rac ed hard for sec ond ( and fi r st 6 - t o
8 -year-o ld). Glendenning ended up rounding
out the podium in third.

ou t in front for round two. Once aga i n ,
laFountaine was dogging him, with KinshelJa
and Jena Ellis also in the hunt. K ealam ak ia
