Scott USA products went to the top three r ider s in all tr ophy -pa ying cl asses. Kaw asaki 500cc rider Ben Atkinson used t h e pow e r of h i s Op e n bike t o take th e hol esho t in th e first Vintage/Woods rnoto , with Jeff An ge and To m Kemp close behi nd . With th e tr ack still muddy in some area s, Atkinson took advantage of the cl ear t rack ah ead of him and pull ed ou t to a large lead. Carman m oved past Ange and Kem p to take ov er sec ond pl ace, and th e finishin g order wa s set as th e white fl ag c ame out, Atkinson took th e w in unchall enged, with Carm an second and Ange in th ird. When th e gate drop ped, Ma ic o·mounted Mic ha el Ha ra sm isz grabbed th e ho les hot, with YZ4 00·mounted A tkin so n and Husky man Bart Lucas cl ose behind. With Harasmisz i n th e lead, Lu c a s qu ick ly d i splaced Atkinson fo r second and bega n pressuring Harasm isz for the lead . Harasm isz took a quick look o ver hi s shoul der t o see wh o was there and realized it wa s Lu ca s on th e much old er Husk y , ri ding like Kent Howerton on a Hu sky f ro m the mid - '70s. Th e t wo lead er s pu lled out a huge lead ove r Atkinson in th ird an d Cannan in fourth . Hara sm isz took th e win, with Luc as a cl os e secon d .
