Honda Hills MX Re s ult s Gibson to the Max at Honda Hills MX By MARK Bu s s UNNVILLE . OH, AUG. 18 Hon da CR125 rider Jeff Gibson was untouchable in the 125cc A cl ass at round ni ne of the Friday Nigh t Series at Honda Hill s MX. Gibson put the Hon da out front from th e o utse t and c ontinued to stre tc h his lead to th e fi nish . Gibson's n ight didn 't begin well . In th e 25 0cc A cla ss. YZ426 F pi lot Micha el Campbell. who p ick ed th e gate right next to th e starte r. absconded with th e hol eshot and im mediately began to pad his lead . Gib son. on the big Ca nnonda le str oker, was sec ond , but he seemed to having a bi t of difficult y co m ing to g rips with the rain -soaked co urse. Bef ore lo ng , Gibson fo und him self under attack by C R250 p il o t Scott Ku ch l er . The i r batt l e allow ed Cam pbe ll to further extend his lead. On lap th ree. Kuchle r passed Gibson for second . Gi bso n im me d iately began to reta liate. Kuchl er hung toug h briefl y . but Gibson soon passed the Honda pilot. and th en he began to whittle away at Campbell's lead. With just tw o laps remain ing , it lo oked like Gibson c o uld take th e lead. but Campbell held Gibs on at bay and scored the vict ory . ju st ahead of Gibson. YZ p ilot Travi s Hartsh orn passed Kuchl er in the waning lap s for third , and YZ rider Craig Clements ro unded out th e top fiv e. RM125 rider Kir k All en was fifth . Will iard repeated the feat in th e School boy cla ss, tak ing th e win ahead of Craig Garr ett and Adam Baker. In the 16· 24 cla ss. RM p ilot and series points leader Wesley Bo yd battled with Kuch ler. The tw o stayed cl ose until B o yd went down . leaving Kuc hler unchalleng ed to the fin ish. Rodn ey Hook. on his YZ426F. again won the Ope n and Over 30 B classes . Hook took the win in th e Open cla ss after battli ng with Tommy La yman and beat Mark Matheis in th e Over 30 B contest. David Marti n took the holeshot. but Kevi n Hom sveld quic kly took co m mand of th e lead in the first tu m . Homsveld set his Yamaha on cru ise contro l to tak e th e win . followed by Martin and Br ad Proffi tt. In t he second m ot o . Kev in 's brother Henry Horn sveld took th e hol eshot. and thi s time Kevin Horn sveld had to battl e hi s brother. Kevin was able to get by Henry for the lead and the win. with Henry placing second and Proffitt thi rd. Th e 125cc Novice an d Intermedia te cla sses featured the t wo and on ly A lessi bro th ers.
