T he much -anticipated Vin tage One matchup of J oyce and Harsh we nt to the line along w ith Formula 500 and Mediumweight Classi c for race two . After starting at the rear of the grid, Joyce and Harsh were already first and second overa ll in just one lap . T eam Steve -O ' s Jason Bessey d esperat el y t ried to keep th em in sig ht. Joy ce pull ed abo ut 10 bike leng t hs per lap an d held th e le ad to the finish. Er ic Smith reeled in Bessey and stol e third. In th e F orm ul a 500 d ivi si o n , Dick Gruhn had gra bbed the lead, but J o ey N av al was closi n g fast. Na val took ov er th e p oi nt by the crosse d flags and str et ched th e lead to a 10 bike sp read by the fi na l lap , but his Su zuki seiz ed with ha lf a lap to go . Gruh n inherited th e lead and th e win. Yamaha 400 rid er J ames Wol fe to ok second , and J ohn Rickard was third . Du c at i jockey Ste ve n Mah an es had the M ed iumwe igh t Cla ssic l ead, but Royce Eaton was creepi ng up eve ry lap and b r in g i n g Ducati-m ount ed Dou g Bow ie with him . Eaton ca ug ht Mah an es, and the tw o were side by sid e at the start/finish li ne on l a p fou r. By lap six, Eaton had pulled a little breathing room on Mah anes. On the final lap, Mahanes got a drive out of the final sweeper and was going to draft Eaton to the flag, bu t he came up a bo ut half a bike lengt h short as E at o n ' s D uc at i won t h e drag race .
