CMC Northwest Summer Motocross Series Round 8: Albany Motorsports Park Sullivan Really Travels Bv Kawasaki -mounted Will Wallace was Sullivan 's closest competition , nab bing second overa ll via a pa ir of sec o nd -pl ac e finishes. Yamaha YZ426F p ilot Jesse Allen (3- 3) thum p ed t o th ird ov erall , wi th Eric Rogers (4- 4) and D evin Connaghan (5- 8) rounding o ut the top fiv e. In the adjoined 250cc Junior class, Doug McKuhn put his bran d -n ew Honda out front of the field of riders in bo th motos to land th e overall w in, ah ead of th e close battl e fo r sec ond plac e b etween Suzu ki ride r Lu c a s Buyas and Hon da p ilot Shawn Hu eg e, whi ch was finalized in Bu yas ' fa vo r. Due to the running of the Trans-Cal round at Alban y Mo torsports Park th e following day, the co m petiti on was, as expect ed, b rutall y tough in th e 80c c classes. Ryan Villopoto, J osh Hill and K enny Webster - arguabl y th e t op three 80cc speedsters in the North west - were on hand, and the y prov id ed cl ose racing action in the Supermi ni and 80cc age-g roup ev ent s . Yamaha-mounted Villopoto , Hill and Webster sta yed in clos e co m p a n y th roughout four matos, with Villopoto netting the overall w in in th e Supermi ni class . All th ree racers won the ir respective classes in the combined 80cc age -group motos: Hill topped th e 80cc (9 - I I) class, Villopoto wo n the 80cc (12-1 3) d iv ision , and We b ste r scored a victory in the 80 cc ( 1416) classification. KTM -m ount ed J a red Wood was o ne of the few doubl e-c lass winners on the day. Although under pre ssure from Cobra -mounte d La ndon Currier, Wood wo n all four motos he entered , pic kin g up th e 60c c Juni or (6 -8) and 60cc Open victories , fin ishing j ust CN ahead of Currier in both cla sses. Wh ile the 17 -year -o ld Oregon ian d id meet his fi rst mark by scoring a flawless perfo rmance in the 25 0 cc Int erm ed iate class , Su llivan faced to ug her-than usua l co mpet itio n in the 125cc class . On e of the multitude of ou t -ofstaters on ha nd - Sonoma , Cal ifor nia 's Steve Mertens - gave Sul liv an o ne of h is tou gh est battles this sea son in both 125cc Interm ediate motos. Though Sullivan led for much of the second 125cc Pro /Intermediate-class mota in a brutal battle with Pro M ike Storm , Mertens overtook Sullivan and finally Storm to nab a last-lap lead and take the w in , cap pi ng off Mertens' I -I sweep . Sullivan tra iled both Mertens and the SMPbacked Storm at the fi ni sh . Storm was the o verall 125cc Pro class victor with a 2- I tally after m o t a - o n e wi nner Mike C o r d e r cras hed and came from ha lf a lap ba ck to fin ish a m on g t h e t o p six , tr ai lin g Mertens, Storm , Sullivan , Dale A insl ie and Mar c Mill er -Jones.
