Chris "Th e Kid" Man chester and Ji m Estes won the Scratch and Hand icap m ains, respecti vely. On th e o uts ide wa s And y "The Enforcer" Northrup. Castro cut a fabulou s gate; locked in behind him was McC onn ell , and the two would tran sfer to the m ain . Northrup and O xley wou ld get one m or e shot in the last -chance qualifier. In the seco nd Scratch sem i, Estes was on t he pole, w it h Ma nch est er in t wo , " Du k ie " Ermolenko in thr ee a nd Bobby " Bo og aloo" Schwa rtz in four. M anche ster exploded off th e line . with Sc hwartz rig ht beh ind h im . T hey stayed tha t way ; Estes and Ermolenko would m ove on to the LCQ . Ermolenk o had the po le fo r the LCQ, with Estes in two, Oxl ey in thr ee, and Northrup on the o uts ide. Ermo lenk o was firs t off the li ne and never loo k ed ba ck . The lineup for the Scratch ma in wa s deter mined by a foot race run by five fans. It was four young men against one young lady, and t he lady nat soc k ed it to them ; she too k a co m m an d ing le ad r ig ht fro m th e start and made it bigger as she m ade her way around the tra ck. It wou ld be Schwa rtz on th e pol e. with Ermolenk o in two and McConnell in three . Ca stro and Man che ster wer e o n th e outsid e. T he ga te went to Schwartz, but Manchester took it to warp speed and came flying aro und the outsi de to take the lead and then distance himself from the rest of the field . Schwartz was a sol id second. aft er one of his best rid es of the season. Northrup had to settl e for th e show m on ey. Estes and Oxl ey rounded out the field . The lineup fo r the Hand ic ap main had one ride r on the zero- y ard lin e. Dann y Perkin s won hi s Support heat , which gave him a fi rst-divi sio n ride, and he tr an sferred all th e way to the ma in . E st es lined up o n th e 4 0 . North rup, Man ch ester , Randy DiFr ancesco and Schwartz shared th e 50 . and Venegas (w ho had been battl ing a ca se of foo d poi son ing ) an d Oxley were on th e 60 . Riding his heavil y m od ified J ack son Perform an ce KT M 380, th e Galva nat ive has won the 400cc class on eac h of hi s five appeara nces , and he has also pi cked up an incredibl e three Fast Time awards , whic h puts him in a tie with Lane Sch ultz in that category , Stewart had to fight hard for the big trophy at the Pleasu re Rider s cl imb on J uly 2 . as his fir st-rou nd ride of 4.195 seconds was fi rst tied by Ma rk Good man J r. in the 600cc cl ass and then beaten by Wa de Sc hu ltz . wh o b lasted ove r the 150 -foot hill in 4 .182 seco nds o n his Harley in first-round Pushrod -c1ass a cti on . Stewa rt responded like th e true cha m pio n he is, how ever, blazing over the top in a high -fl y ing 4 .109 sec o nds o n h is sec ond ro und to tak e th e 400cc -c1ass win and set a new fast tim e.
