Marcus Pedrero , Wendell Simmons and Epps dodging his roost. Wood motored by Epp s and Sim mons on lap one , as Ti che nor ope ned up hi s biggest lead of the weekend. Dukes had a lock on the runn er-up spot. and Pedrero was third. Th e real race was for fourth. between Wood, May and Epps , who rode only inches apart the entire seven laps . Wit h half a lap to go . As if it wasn't hot enough at the fifth round of the Perry 's Outdoor MX Series. with the saw· dust loam of A ction Vall ey 's 1.2·mile circ uit scorched by a bli stering sun and temperatures above 90 degrees. Bond decided to add his own ingredients of · shake and bak e" to the day 's events . In the co m bi ned 250cc/Open A and 25Occ/Open B classes. Bond let his CR250 siz· zle around th e Valley . In both m oto s. Bond zipped to the holeshot and left the rest of the pack to battl e it out while he sliced and diced his way around the circuit. He took the checkers in both events and the overall win for the day . On a borr owed blue bike (becau se his red o ne refus ed to run ) . Bond faced his biggest challenge of the day in the co mbined Over 30 AlB and 125cc A classes. In mote one, he was dead last around th e holeshot comer. A third of the way through the firsllap. By lap three, Bond had put Myers behind him and was kicking up some serious loam in qu est of the front-running Honda of Vaughn. With patience and pe rs is te nce and h is usual " loose as a goose" sty le of racing. Bond captured the lead on the last lap and went on for the win. In the 250 cc A class. RM250 rider Strunck again snagged the holeshot, follo wed closely by Gibson. this time on a tricked -out YlF Yamaha strok er. The lead duo was also being stalked by CR250 rider Scott Kuchler and RM25O·m ount ed Collier. Gibson quickly passed Strun ck and then set a blistering pace and sim ply checked out . In Gibson's wake . Strunck had his hands full with Kuc hler. who desperately tried many lines around the Suzuki ride r · all to no avai l, as St ru nck countered each of Ku chler's moves. Coll ier caug ht the battling duo . and he soon passed Kuchler and set off after Strunck. Th e two shadowed each oth er for most of the moto befo re Strunc k finally pu lled away a b it. By m oto's end , Gibson was so far ahead that it seemed he could have loaded up . collected his winnings and left the prem ise s before th e rem aining Pro riders crossed t he fi ni sh li ne!
