In the heat, Prince. on his yellow bike , cla imed the holeshot, with YZ-mou nted Lovins and his VZ. blue -bike rider Dillion Clayton and the Cad iz Kawasak i- sponsored Shane Kissiar in close pu rsuit. Prince was pri med for a win , but Lovins had othe r plans. From the time the ga le fell. Lovins had his eye on the front -running Prince. Throu ghout the fir st two la ps, Lovi ns sized up Prince. Right on Lovins' rear kno bby was the ever -presen t g reen m ach ine of Kissiar . As the tr io fil ed ou t of the rear section of the track and headed back onto th e s tarti ng-gate stra igh taway, Lovin s too k a shot at Prince , but he had to back off the throttle for the slight jog left at the end of the straight.
