Prince was pri med for a win , but Lovins had othe r plans. From the time the ga le fell. Lovins had his eye on the front -running Prince. Throu ghout the fir st two la ps, Lovi ns sized up Prince. As the tr io fil ed ou t of the rear section of the track and headed back onto th e s tarti ng-gate stra igh taway, Lovin s too k a shot at Prince , but he had to back off the throttle for the slight jog left at the end of the straight.
