The 60 - 105c c cl ass' battl e pulled them u p into the th ick of the Am a t eur b a tt l e . Autumn Brek er , racing the first event of h er you ng career, va lia ntly held fourth . Up front, Bau was putting o n a rid ing clin ic. Huds o n was unab le to force a mistake. Wosick dropped it on the uphill and Myers took advan tage of the misha p to streak by int o fou rth. Yancey dro p ped it on the same hill on the following lap , elevat ing M y er s to th ird. Yancey lo st time getting restarted , an d a freight train of riders scooted a ro und th e downed machin e. Madden closed the gap on Woslck , followed by Neitzel and Sc hlike. Mini pilot Lacey had impressive ly wo rk ed her way into eighth overall by th e h alfw ay point, followed b y Pickett and WaIlingsford. A s B au m ov ed th rough lapp ed traffic , Hud son fell up th e fac e of a jum p , g iv ing Bau the br eath in g room she needed. Hud so n w as u p f ast enough to ret a in sec ond , but the damage was done. Yancey eve n tu all y pas sed W o s ic k f or fourth and a fe w l a p s l at er passed M yers to clai m third by the checkers. Wos ick took th e mot o -two ho leshot. Bau muscl ed her wa y into th e lead . Hu dson al so pa ssed Wosi ck , and th en ch ipped away at Bau 's lead . Yan c ey was po ised in thi rd , waiting for her chanc e to strike. Bau see med a little slo we r tha n Hudson or Yancey in th e techn ical sec tions, bu t she was able to stretch out he r lead ag ai n in the more-open sections. La yn e Swan son was running second in th e Ama t eurs, follo wed b y Madd en , Pi c k ett and Wallings ford . H ud so n clo sed the gap on B a u , and they d ic ed fo r the lead. Six laps into th e race, Ba u used la pped traffic to pull three se c o n d s clear of the determ ined Huds on . B a u won the moto ove r H u d so n , Yancey and Myers.
