In the exciting Pro 600 cc event, current class po ints leader Glenn L'Heureux again showed the vetera ns the fast way around as he stonned to the front, with Rog er Sterling and Steve Nichols in pursuit. While L'Heureux worked his magic o ut front, pulling away, Nichols contin ued to pester Sterling , finally sli p p i n g by h im at midrace. By that time, how ever, L' Heureux was out of Nichols' reach . Nichol s was a solid second Sterling was third , with John Jeffries fourth and Jim Strome fifth after a heated contest. In Amateur acti on, Mike Konshak too k con vincin g wins in both the Ope n Vintage Over 20 and Senio rs Ov er 40 contests on the da y. Usa L'Heureux co ntinui ng her string of top -three fin ishes, working her way to second, behind Kon shako in Open Vintag e Ov er 20, and holding off a valiant c harge by J .C. Clark in the 6 00 cc Amateur cla ss to take seco nd- pl ace honors in that division as well . Glenn McNamara took the top spot in the 600cc Amateur contest after a solid and steady ride fro m flag to flag . Th e only bad incident of the day occurred i n t he Open Twin Amateur contest. Class champ Bob Snyder came unsea ted while challengi ng Russ Briggs for the lead on the first lap, cra cking a few ribs in the process. Sny der was unable to m ak e the restart. and Briggs took up where he left off, in the lead , and went on to win the cla ss. Jerry Hinds, Mike Kon shak and Gary Moo re filled out the top four spots.
