T he ne w track , designed by Do ug He nry , a leg end in his own right , was fast a nd furi ous, as well a s rough a nd long . Th is new, natural -terrain motocross tr a c k is by all means pure Unadilla , a nd has e verything one would e xpect, includ ing not one but two Screw-U sections. Th e track has lots of fast up h ills , downh ills a nd off-camber turns. As is usual for th e Nationa l track , the amateur trac k go t ex tre mely rough as th e da y's pr ogra m wo re on, a nd the pro gram went we ll, consi dering it was th e first ra ce o n a new track . J ust few er th an 700 riders s igned up to rac e th e day 's 25 classes. RRp,back ed and na tionally ranked Pro rider Ty Wallace topped th e podiu ms in both t he 12 5 c c and 25 0 c c O p e n Exp ert c la s ses . Wa llace also had a shot at the podium in the O ve r 25 Expert class . Wallace was le a d ing the firs t Ov er 25 mot o when he s uffere d a flat rear t ire and did not finish . Carsten rounded the s econd turn of th e seco nd 125c c Ex pert mot o in the po int position. Ca rp enter managed to get around Carst en by the end of th e first uph ill-downhill section, dropping Car ste n to second. Rounding out the to p five were you ng Ryan Mills, Wal lace a nd Paul Corey. Carsten took the point posi tion back by the start of the second lap. Carpenter dropped to second, Walla ce moved up to third , and Mills and Cor ey battled fo r fourth and fifth . Wall ace emerged from th e Screw -U s ections in the lead. Carsten and Carpen te r dropped to second a nd third . Kratz wo rke d hi s way up to fourth, and Mills held on to fifth. By the la st la p , Wallace and Carsten - barring any m isfortun e - had the top two s po ts in the bag , while Kratz managed to get Carpen ter for th ird. Carpenter and Mills fin ished fourth and fifth. Wallace to pped the 125cc Expert podium with a 2 - I s c or e . Ro und ing o ut t h e top th ree we re Kratz and Ca rsten .
