Humphrey took t he hol eshot in m oto one and led to the chec kers. with Coo k close behind . Th e Su pe rmi ni cla ss featured a battle betwee n Den ni s Jonon an d Robbie Smith . In m oto one , Sm ith had the lead until his bik e rolle d to a stop on the uphill by the start gate and he had to take a DNF due to a broken chain, g ivi ng Jono n the win. Smith again had the lead in mota two , but J on on was on a mis sion and ove rtook Smi th to get another win in m oto tw o . The 60 cc Open contest was another good bar -bangin g race. Wil Hahn had to dig deep to beat Trey Canard in moto one. The battle started again in m oto two , but it came to an abrupt end wh en Ca nard c ras hed hard, taki ng t he pressure off of Hah n. Ty ler Dun ham step ped up to finish second, wh ich gave hi m second overall after a fourth -pla ce finis h in mota one . Th e fi rst -p lace finisher s in th e series w ill ride away on brand -n ew mountain bikes. Th e second-place fin ishers will have to "settle" for br and -n ew BMX bicycle s. Guy and Wa nda Cooper also have a horde of goodies for other fi nishers. but the buzz in th e pit s was all abo ut who was go ing to win what bicyclel The second and final rou nd will be held at Cooperland Raceway on Ju ly 9 . Action Sports Stadium Motocross Martin Nets Two By ROPERT X. P EUEIT NELSONVILLE. O H, MAY 13 With a co u p le h und red rac er s an d a j um p · infested circui t fea turing some of the best dirt around, the A ct ion Sports Stadium Motocross Seri es kicke d off wi th a bang here in southe rn Ohio. A sloppy practi ce session was th e result o f rai n th e prev io u s night an d in t he ea rly m orning , but th e tra ck conditi ons were ta cky and nearly perfect by race ti me. Newport, Ohio's J osh Marti n teased the B rid ers in attendance with his aggressive ridin g . Martin refused to lose a sing le m oto at thi s chal· lenging facility. as the yo uthfu l Amateur racer proved he is ready to com pete at Loretta Lynn's this year. Martin held off a charging Kevin Hildebrand to whip the pack of 250cc B riders, and then he charged hard in the 125cc B class. dispatching Suzuki rider Brian Beckholt to take both wins. Athens' Ky le Teel also look ed fast as he challenged Martin early in the second 125cc B moto and eventually fin ished second, though his first-moto fourth ·place finish relegated him to third overall, behind Beckholt. Martin' s four-moto swee p was equa led by that of Mike Morgan, who topped th e 250 cc A and Ove r 25 cl asses, while "Wild" Willy Brow ning stomped on the Mini Senior and Schoo lboy class es, taking a qua rtet of victories.
