Yamaha rider Mon tie Orr was first to h it th e woods in th e Vet A class , but Hu sqvarn a ride r Da vid Whi te came ba ck from a midpack start to take the lead by th e first la p. White a dd ed to his growing list of Vet A victories . Honda ride r Glenn Ho lcomb c ame throu gh the barrels in second. O rr took third . In th e Sen ior A cl a s s , KTM rid er Gil Griggs led the pa c k off the start. Kawa saki ride r Do n Ha ll gave Griggs a ho lle r, a nd Griggs let him b y. Ha ll controlled t he lead u ntil KTM rider Ro bert Cox ha mmered by him on the inside of a straight stretch . Cox went down, los in g pos itions t o Hall an d Griggs . Ha ll took the win with a four minute lea d . Cox caug ht back up to Griggs to battle for second , but Griggs wou ld n 't le t anyon e e lse by and took second. Co x took third . KTM ride r Brian Thompson took the 200cc B holeshot. Thom ps on la id it ove r in a turn , letting Yama ha ride r Ja son Huffm an take the lead . Huff ma n led th e second lap until he got tangled up in th e tight pin e s after the s e c ond c hec k poi n t. Th omp s on repa s s ed Huffm an a n d we nt o n t o take th e win , with Huffm a n comi ng in s econd . Chris Cooper too k third . Tr a vis Fe rgu s on led th e pack off th e sta rt in th e 250cc B class. KTM rider Bo b Wh ite Jr. lat c hed o n to Fe rguson's ba ck whe el a nd pu t th e pres sure on. Wh ite passed Ferguson a nd finished with h is fourth class win of the season . A m ile into the la s t lap , Ferg u s o n nai le d a t re e and did an u ne xpected "S u pe rma n seat-gra b" th at e nded up with h im g oing ov er th e handl eba rs . Suzu ki rid er J o e y Woody seized th e oppo rtunity to take second , and Fe rg us o n re c o ve re d to take third . The Supermini cours e wa s s imilar to the main co u rs e , o n ly 10 mil e s shorter. Kawasaki ride r Timmy Cra ddock wa s t he fir st rid e r t o fly b y Bull ' s-Eye Roc k off of the s ta rt, a nd he o pe ned up a minute lead over seco nd -placed R.J . Ferg uson. Woodland Motocross Part<: Grayson Hart(72) won the 250cc and Over 30 Expert classes at the championship round of the Northwest Vintage Motocross Series in Woodland, Washington. Northwest Vintage Motocross Series Round 8: Woodland Motocross Park Hart Staggers 'em By a nd Sweeten we re se parated by Row at the finish. Case y wa s s e co nd ove ra ll with 3-2 placings, followed by Row (4 3) and Sweeten (2 -4) . Webster, wh o was making h is Intermediate -class debut, made u p for his dismal fourth-place first-mo to finish by handily topping moto two, a lthough the 14-year -o ld Spraque netted th e overall win with h is 1-2 plac ings, lea d ing Webster (4-1) a nd Morga n (2-3) into the top thre e . Hart absconded with t he ho leshot in t h e mu ltipl e -c la s s Over 4 0 a n d Over 30 Expert and Inte rme diate classes , which were a lso co mbined with the Over 40 and Over 30 Expert and Int e rm e d ia te Ev oluti on (1975 81 ) classes. Des pite th e o bvious suspension disadva ntag e , Hart s co red wins in both motos ahead of the top Over 40 Evolution Expert rider, J e sse Buckley. O ther overall class winners included: Keith Webster, who rode a rare 1974 Husk y MAG400 to the Over 40 Vintage Expert class win ; Over 3 0 Vintage Intermediate-class winner Jeff Pugh ; and Husky rider Kerry Patterson, who toppe d both Over 40 Ev oluti on Int erm ediate motos over Maico riders Dale Hodson and Fran k Campbell. While former Yamaha and Maico sup port rider Scott T y le r won the major ity of the Open E v olu t io n Expert-class overall .wins in the ea rly stages of the season, Yamaha- mounted Kurt Ste ven s ha s been contro lling th e te m po in th e later ra c es . On the day , Ste ve n s n etted th e o ve ra ll win with 2 -1 finish es , beating Sweeten in a mote-two shoot out. Sweeten ( 1-3 ), Monty Pric e (3- 2) , J ay Lael (5 -4) and Kary Kra he l (4 -5) filled out the top five spots overall. CN C LA Y L I G HT WOODLAND,WA,MAYI3 o rm e r AMA National number 72, Grayson Ha rt , took a break from contesting the AMA We s tern Fo ur Stroke Natio nal Series to return home to the Northwest a nd perform a two class decimation at the eighth and fina l round of the Vintage Dirt -sa nctio ned Northwest Vintage Motocross Series at Woodla nd Motocross Pa rk. The O re go nian scored im pres sive wins in th e 250 c c a nd O ve r 30 E xp e rt class es aboa rd his trusty 19 74 Honda CR250 Els inore. Undoubtedly the Northwest's premier Vintage motocrosser, Hart had unusually close co mpeti tion in t he 250cc Expert class , as a t rio of fast Northwesterners kept ta bs on him . Honda-m oun ted De nn is Sw e eten scored the ho leshot laurels at the start of the first 250cc Ex pe rt/ Inte rmed iate moto , followed by Joe Case y and Hart . However, Ha rt quick relegated Sweeten an d Ca s e y to the second and th ird-place positions , and from that point on , Ha rt held the point position to the finish . Behind Hart, Sweeten and Casey d id battle - a swapfest that kept the two riders close to Hart. Sweeten barely edged Casey at the finish . Jim Row finished fourth . Oregon's Cody Sprague was not fa r off of the Ex perts ' pa c e , posting a win in the Intermediate class , ahead of Wash ing ton' s Jon Morga n . Wal te r Welter, Kyle Webster a nd Harry Tay lor filled out th e top five s pots . Hart moto red to the head of the field in m oto two a nd th en stayed in that po s ition to cap off a 1-1 sweep.
