Instead, it ma de a few extra do llars for Fasthog .com 's Will Da vis and a he ll of a lot of sense to everyone else. F aci n g a f ield th at was ' short on horsepower, but hardly short on talen t, Da v is gra bbed the holeshot and le d every lap in the class' debut featu re, thus becoming the first rider ever to win a Form ula USA /Wrench ead .co m National Dirt Track Series main even t . Th e victory marked the start of a great nigh t for Davis, who rode a restricted 600 cc ATK to hold off the similarly mounted Saddlem en Racing / Lancast er H-D /Dodg e Bro the rs' Mike Hack er and a hard-charging Kenny Noyes on th e U neweaver Racing Husaberg 400 . "I th ink there is going to be some super racin g in this class ," Davis said. "I don 't know th at th e class needs m e to race in it. I don't kn ow if they need to keep th e top 10 guys out or what, but I think th at it is super racin g, and if that will pump the other gu ys to go faster wi th us being involve d , then we wi ll race in it. Th e lower-horsepower m oto rc ycles m ad e it easy for everyone. It wasn't the funnest thing I ever rode, but it work ed pretty well and th e raci ng was good . I like th is PACE deal. Th ere are a few things that I don 't agree with , but what I am happy abou t is th at there are people in plac e who can effect some changes in our spo rt . A nd they kn ow ho w t o t ake c are of sp ect ators. M y m ain concem is for safety . But the fans were really pumped. I co uldn 't believe how excited they were." No yes and Schnabel battled for th e lead at the start of the fi rst of the two regu lar Pro Singles heat race s, with Noyes getting t o the front whi le KK Racing /H - D of Dall as' Will ie McC oy slipped int o thi rd , ahead of Myers Du ren H -D / B ob Rose Motorsports ' Vict or MacA nall y and J oe Kopp, who was aboard a stock -fra med KTM 400 for this particular class. Noyes and Schn abel remained tied together u p front, Sc h n ab el f inall y pulling off an aggressive move to get underneath No yes in turn one on th e last lap. No yes tried to fend him off, but then slipped on the marbles at the edge of the groove and dropped to second . T h en , miracle of miracles , the w in was handed r ight back to Noyes when Schnabel slid out in turn four . McCoy f in i shed second , with Kopp third , MacAnally fourth . Schn abel recovered and fin ished seventh to become the last rider in the heat to earn a d i r ec t transfer. Afterward , Noyes sa id he was surprised to see Schn abel on the ground. "I couldn't believe it : No yes said. " W h en I saw h im go down, I j us t cou ld n't b eli ev e it. He go t a good drive off of tu rn fou r, and he just go t und er m e and kind of pushed m e off into th e loose stuff ." Dav is grabbed the lead in a sta rtstudded second heat , but the race was red -fla gged, forcin g everyone to start from square one. It j ust doesn't pull down the st ra ightaways at all. It's li k e an 88 3, except that th ese handle good ." T he Last Chan ce Qua lifier seeme d to properly cha rge the crowd for the main event , as J enn ifer Sn yder and Jacob Lat im er batt led for the lead , Latimer pass ing Snyd er d o w n the back chute on the last lap to earn the win . Both ride rs tra nsferred into the ma in event. Noyes held the low pole , with Hacker and Davis lining up in the next tw o spots towa rd the outs ide wall. They were joined on the front row by McCoy , Stanley and Kopp. Davi s immediately j um p ed to the front when the green light flashed . Noyes and Kopp drag raced off turn two behind Davis, with Kopp pinching Noyes off on th e back straightaway wall to run second. Hacker was fourth, follo wed by Price , Eades and Stanley in sevent h. Davis ran out fr ont for the rest of the race, though Hack er ke pt it close . Further back, Snyder was engaged in a spi rit ed battl e with Gle nn McNa ma ra for 14th , while T yer and Ku rt Hawk duked it out j ust ah ead of the pa ir , T yer ultimat el y fin ishing 12th.
